Amalgamation

The Village of Sussex Corner Council recently asked the residents of our Village to fill in questionnaires regarding any questions or concerns they may have regarding amalgamation with the Town of Sussex. After reviewing the questionnaires, it appears that while most people appear to be opposed to the idea of amalgamation, they are interested to find out how such a change would affect taxes, services, water protection, community identity and representation with the provincial government. To that end we have agreed to meet with the Town of Sussex.

Relay For Life

The Village of Sussex Corner is pleased to show its support of the upcoming 2011 Relay For Life by donating $500.00 for this year’s event. You are encouraged to show your support by participating in the June 10th – 11th Relay For Life or, if you can not attend, by making a financial contribution.

Construction Projects

The construction season is upon us and the Village will embark on two infrastructure projects this year. The first is an extension of the sewer system on Post Road to include the East Coast Village mini-home park. The second is the extension of the sidewalk on Post Road to Connolly Drive. Both projects will be completed this fall.

Public Works Garage

The Village has taken ownership of the new Public Works Garage on Cougle Road and Staff is in the process of fitting up the facility and consolidating equipment, materials and supplies in the new location. There is much yet to be done to see the facility is a model for future industrial development in that area. The Village intends to host an Open House within the next few weeks to allow citizens the opportunity to tour the facility.

Flood Remediation

Recent events have proven flood events can occur at any time regardless of the season and its normal conditions. Local residents have asked the Village to investigate ways and means of addressing localized flooding in an attempt to eliminate or reduce the impact on their properties. Village Council has responded by appointing a Flood Committee with a mandate that includes flood remediation. The Committee is comprised of a number of members of Village Council along with interested residents. The meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Village Hall and are open to the public.

Outdoor Rink

The Village will be discussing the future of the Sussex Corner outdoor rink and forming a Committee to set a course of action to ensure the Village has an outdoor rink for many years to come. If you have any thoughts on the matter and / or would like to volunteer to serve on a committee, please contact the Village office.

Promotional Items

The Village has on hand a number of items promoting the Village of Sussex Corner. They include lapel pins, writing pens and polo shirts, all of which are available for sale at the Village Hall during business hours.
